Revolutionary Year After Year Or Is The iSheep Herd Getting Bigger and Bigger?
On October 30, 2018, Apple changed the world… again. Apple has been making new products that change the way people interact with devices. From the first personal desktop computer, to the iPod, iPhone, laptops, watches, and iPad; everything Apple does “changes everything.”
Almost to the point where it leaves you thinking… “Again?!”
Apple’s customers use their products daily. For example, there is not a day that goes by that I do not use my phone, my laptop, and my Air Pods. But there are days that I do not use my iPad, sometimes weeks at a time. So, as you can see these products become a part of you.
They become part of who we are and part of our every day lives. So, would it be crossing the line to say these products have become essential to our daily lives and how we function; that without them we would feel lost, incomplete, incapable of going through a day without some kind of anxiety or uneasiness? Separation from some of these products may leave some feeling like an awful breakup just occurred or they have lost a loved one and Apple takes advantage of this.
Apple knows it has fans that follow blindly, they are known as iSheep and these people are the prime victims. The problem with iSheep is that the hurd is growing. Check your phone, is it an iPhone? Do you have an iWatch on your wrist? Do you keep up to date with Apple products? Does the thought of upgrading after an event cross your mind? You may be considered an iSheep.
It is easy for Apple to create wonderful products and have them sell like wildfire because of its great marketing. The quality of Apple’s products is so great that people will spread their love for the brand through word of mouth. The products have a big Apple logo which is easily seen wherever you go and it even lights up on some of their computers. It has become a norm, either you have an Android device, which can stem to many different devices made by different companies, or an iPhone. Very few people have Microsoft phones or even Blackberrys.
According to Statista, Apple is on their A-game dominating market share only behind Android. So many users have iPhones, they see others with their iPhones which leaves Apple with very little left to do. Apple does not have to worry about SEO, SMO, thus not having to worry about SEM. Being such a big corporation they can pay to promote their products and being so well known, marketing efforts are minimal, the people do most of the work, voluntarily. They do this because, Apple knows how to sell on emotions, “Apple may be the perfect example of a company that utilizes emotions to create a connection with consumers and brand loyalty over time.” Customers are so connected to the product that it becomes like a best friend to them.
If their best friend ever were to be kidnapped, broken, or dare I say… Outdated, it leaves consumers needing a replacement, ASAP!
So when Apple holds its meetings to announce the years new products, they will use words such as: reimagined, revolutionary, state of the art, recreated, redone, rebuilt, any way to communicate across to you with different words that, ‘Your product is old. We completely redid the product you’re holding now. Everything about it has been changed and it is time for you to upgrade.’ Apple’s impressive new iPad Pro is an example.
We will see hoards of people buying their upgraded friends to replace their old ones on their wrists, in their ears, and holding them like the teddy bears they grew up with. But who am I to talk, my 2012 laptop has been needed a replacement…the stitching is starting to come apart.
Could it be that Apple is the best company at portraying and marketing their product as brand spanking new or is it that they are actually so far ahead of their time that they really ARE revolutionizing everything, every year, over and over again?
