Samsung’s marketers hit the nail in the head.
I found out my little brother wanted a phone and out of all phones, he wanted a Samsung!
I could not figure out why he would want a phone and I teased him about whether it was girls or he wanted to be able to talk to all his buddies and not worry about my mom knowing what he is texting them or calling them about.
Soon enough I broke him and found out it was because he wanted to play Fortnite!
I told him he can play Fortnite on my Xbox or on an iPhone. He then told me it’s because,
“Ninja plays on a Samsung.”
By luck, the commercial starts playing on the TV my mom was watching. To top it all off, it was on a Spanish network and the commercial was playing in Spanish!
“HAA! They got you!” is what I said to him.

They brought stars in like Travis Scott and Ninja as social influencers. Samsung decided to target a younger market of soon to be phone users and gave those kids watching a reason to ask for a phone and to ask for a Samsung!
Fortnite is still a popular game that has been out for over a year but still has many people playing it and streaming Twitch user Ninja.
The kids watching the commercial feel as that if they buy a Samsung phone, they will be sponsored, which is every gamer’s dream, to make money from playing video games!
Samsung changes the perspective of parents by showing a supportive mother who instead of asking the child to turn off the device and come down for dinner, she acts like her daughters agent by booking gaming sessions with Travis Scott and Ninja. Hey, according to the six degrees of separation observation, Travis Scott and Ninja aren’t too far away! This commercial makes kids believe their online community will expand and they may get a chance to meet social leaders like Travis Scott and Ninja.

These people act as opinion leaders and because they play with Samsung phones, the younger crowd that Samsung is targeting now want a Samsung phone. This ad also must have raised the level of participation for Fortnite and Ninja’s Twitch streamers.
It worked on my little brother and I wonder how many more kids decided they wanted new phone because of ad.
Comment with your thoughts and experience. Or if you just want to play a quick game of Fortnite, Apple vs Samsung games anyone?
